The Appalachian Global Service Corps is an organization dedicated to empowering Appalachian youth to be servant leaders through international global service projects and leadership training.
Due to their zip code and economic background, student in Appalachia will need to do even more to access educational and employment opportunities. It is essential for the future of Appalachia that we provide opportunities that will develop our strong, smart, kind students into the amazing leaders they were born to be.
Since our founding in 2012, AGSC has facilitated international service trips for over 50 students from Appalachia. On these trips students have built schools in Honduras, swam in the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean as their first beach experience, constructed four greenhouses for families in rural Peru, made a Honduran meal with a family in their home, witnessed the renowned beauty and wonder of Machu Picchu, and so much more.
After one of our trips, students return to the region with the experiences to make them eligible for premiere scholarship opportunities, and the skills and desire to become leaders in service clubs, scout groups, and college social justice programs. Students bring back the skills they’ve built abroad and use them to shape a brighter future for their home. Supporting Appalachian youth is an investment in their futures, and an investment in the future of Appalachia.
