The Corps Member Education Foundation supports educational opportunities for students of Teach For America corps members. The reality is that in our country where a child is born strongly predicts his or her educational outcomes and life prospects. CMEF was established by a Teach For America alumni who witnessed that when provided the opportunity for an excellent education, students growing up in low-income communities can and will achieve.
We also struggled with the lack of co-curricular opportunities and experiential learning opportunities many students growing up in high-income communities often take for granted: field trips, attending camps, etc. Offering students a high quality education in the classroom leaves teachers very little time to plan these co-curricular activities (not to mention raise the funds that otherwise would not be available).
CMEF helps fill this void. We provide Teach For America corps members and alumni with tools and resources to initiate programs to increase the number of educational opportunities for students living in regions where Teach For America places corps members. In addition to providing corps members the opportunity to fund-raise, we provide project timelines, templates, and other tools that reduce the time necessary to plan their co-curricular activities. We also help reconnect alumni, many of whom moved away from their placement region after completing their Teach For America commitment, with their students and their placement communities.
Empowering educators to provide life-changing experiences in and outside the classroom.
