- Program Description
The Corps Member Education Foundation will be hosting a college visit to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for students of the Milwaukee Teach For America corps members. During the visit students will meet with admissions counselors, financial aid representatives, and student leaders.
In 2001, Wisconsin ranked third nationally in high school graduation rates with a 85% graduation rate. While Wisconsin performed well on average, the disparity between the graduation rate for white students (92%) and black students (40%) was the largest in the United States. Moreover, white students attend college at a rate of about six to one when compared with African America students.
This visit is designed to better inform students about the requirements for college admission, but also showcase the types of opportunities attending college affords. This program will also encourage students to set high expectations for themselves and their peers and motivate Teach For America students to go to college when they graduate.
