Program Description

The Community Development Project (CDP), through its Community Technology Center (CTC), will provide after school tutoring and mentorship services to neighborhood youth. The CTC will provide community Baptist Town youth with basic computer skills training including typing, Microsoft Office training, web navigation, and research, alongside diversity and character building mentorship activities. All CTC enrollees will have access to email and printing services. The CTC will engage youth in relevant and high-interest programming that integrates technology education with civil rights and diversity mentorship curriculum.

As a community-based learning partnership, the CTC will bring local youth and adult leaders into mentorship and educational roles to provide much needed computer access and education. In cooperation with the City of Greenwood, the Community Development Project will help design and implement a culture- and region-specific basic computer-training curriculum. The CTC will target youth between the ages of 8 and 18, many of whom have Teach For America teachers in the classroom, and will provide one-on-one and group computer skills training sessions in addition to diversity training, character-building and mentorship activities.

In order to make the CTC a reality, the Community Development Project needs to raise $12,000. Please consider making a donation to the CDP and help give the children of Baptist Town and Greenwood, Mississippi a safe and productive place to build skills needed in the 21st century.
